Fellow Hunters:

We are sending you this newsletter to thank you for entering our annual Big Buck Classic Contest and to forward you this year’s results. The Big Buck Classic Committee and NGBR&GC will be donating $1000.00 to a local charity.

Ray Wardrop, Bryan Boshold & Chris Mink scored 120 sets of antlers this year, 27 more than last year. This included a total of 17 bucks harvested with bow and a total of 11 bucks harvested by black powder rifle. A huge thanks as always goes out to Ray, Bryan & Chris for their efforts, time and expertise in assisting our club.

As you now know, we changed the Big Buck Classic last year to include more draw prizes. A total of three quality draw prizes were purchased and have been added for this year’s prize winner’s. This year’s three winners are as follows:

1. Ron Goulin (Essex County) – Ticket #0701 – Marlin 336 BDL (30-30) Rifle / Quigley Scope

2. Murray Miehm (Wiarton) – Ticket #0467 – Maximus Ergo Crossbow package

3. Ted Atchison (Hepworth) – Ticket #0841 – CVA Wolf Blackpowder Rifle

Gerry Kuglin of Williamsford, Ontario harvested the biggest buck with a green score of 158 4/8”. Gerry chose the Savage Axis XP/Scope .243 calibre rifle from Watson’s Tackle House as his prize.

Second place went to Ernie Schopf of Owen Sound, Ontario. His buck green scored 150 3/8” and he selected the Excalibur Vixen II Crossbow from Watson’s Tackle House.

Third place went to Steve Gibbons from Sauble Beach, Ontario. His buck green scored 150” and he chose the TC Impact camo Blackpowder rifle from G.A.D. Products.

The bow prize went to Don Bannerman of Hanover, Ontario with a green score of 148 5/8”. Don won the Burris Landmark Binoculars from Watson’s Tackle House.

The Blackpowder prize went to Bradey McDonald of Owen Sound. His buck green scored 147 5/8”. Bradey was awarded the River’s Edge Treestand from Watson’s Tackle House.

All entries following the prize winners went into a draw for the hidden score prize. The winner was James Wagner of Chesley. James buck green scored 97 3/8”. James won the Bushnell Banner scope from G.A.D. Products.

Up for discussion and club vote this year was the inclusion of a possible section for all other bucks harvested outside of Ontario. The motion was put forward by the contest committee to have any buck harvested outside of Ontario entered into its own category for a single prize. This would keep the current top three spots open for Ontario harvested bucks. The club membership decided by unanimous vote to keep the contest as it stands. NEW – Any buck harvested outside of Ontario can only be scored by one of the three club scorer’s. If it’s within the top 3, it shall be made available for scoring by all three as a panel. Also, in next years contest, the largest buck will be provided a full shoulder mount courtesy of Wayne Azzopardi at Wildlife Artistry in Mississauga, Ontario. Wayne is one of the top taxidermists in Ontario and has won numerous awards. We are glad to have him on board as our official taxidermist. You can see his work at www.wildlifeartistry.ca This year; the Big Buck Classic had the highest ticket sales in its history. A big thanks goes out to the ticket buyers, retailers, club members who sold tickets, and the organizing committee. A reminder to all supporters, any size buck harvested as per club rules is eligible for scoring. Finally, congratulations to everyone who was lucky enough to enter antlers and we hope you support us again next year.

We now have a website for the gun club – www.ngbrgc.wordpress.com. Hit the “Big Buck Classic Contest” and the results will be posted there.
